In this workshop, we promote and demonstrate systems that advocate small data against big data, model crafting against pretendedly generic and all-encompassing pre-trained models (we will show they are not). To permit authentic creation against the current normalization of the creative process through prompting alone, we will discuss alternative control strategies. We will also illustrate the virtues of real-time, interactive generation to explore the search space for sweet spots instead of question/answer interactions.

After a brief introduction to Creative AI, co-creation and computer-assisted creativity paradigms, a series of free tools all based on GenAI algorithms that demonstrate these principles for computer-assisted composition, sound design, musical agents, and visual synthesis will be presented and demonstrated. Participants will be inviteed to try them.

While demoing these tools, we will discuss their implications, along with GenAI's hopes and fears. For each key issue (artist replacement, authorship and control, environmental tall, big data and copyright, …), we will provide solutions as envisioned by the creative community itself, presenting a collection of free-to-use generative systems and discussing their implications.

Attendees must bring laptops to participate in the session.
