How can we leverage technology to provide forward-thinking solutions for live performances that are more accessible and sustainable?

Presented by the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) and Moment Factory, this exclusive session marks the end of the first year of collaboration on an exciting new research project, Connected Venues. Together, they are exploring the creation of multi-site augmented performances and shows, and developing a toolbox to help artists and industry professionals facilitate such performances.

A prototype of this technology will be unveiled exclusively at the MUTEK Forum. Split across two rooms at the Monument National, participants will experience two demonstrations of connected performances. The first demonstration will feature a set by Montreal based producer and DJ Lunice, while the second will present a collaborative performance between composer and visual music artist-researcher Myriam Boucher and composer and artist-researcher DJ Simon Chioini.

With this new experience format, SAT and Moment Factory aim to foster artistic collaboration, transcend the limits imposed by the physical world by connecting in-situ performances and shows, and invent more sustainable modes of artistic dissemination – all while encouraging connections between distant audiences.

During the session, participants will take part in an experiment designed to gather data on their sense of co-presence and immersion in remote performances, in order to help us improve future iterations of the project.

About the SAT: Founded in 1996, the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) is a non-profit organization that aims to enhance human connection through the creative exploration of technologies. Endowed with a quadruple mission, it serves as a venue, a creation center with artists’ residencies, an educational center and a research and innovation laboratory.

The SAT's public research center supports experimentation in digital creation through collaborative research-creation initiatives. It develops an open and interoperable technological toolbox.
